Some Thoughts on Flowers, by Yara Zalzal
Just one long-stemmed white Ranunculus and one voluptuous red Ranunculus
hanging side by side and telling each other stories of that time when they were at the farm and the journey that led them to this perfectly cozy spot in my living room.
Some were tall and yellow
And seemed of the rather unobtainable kind,
Same as people who similarly were
Emotionally unattainable.
Others were of a magnificent white or of a resplendent pink or red.
Regardless, those soldierly upstanding tulips remind me of the many times I set foot in Western Europe,
Every single time to be greeted by an army of those,
While, truly, they found their origin from the land of the Persians and Central Asia.
